Well Water Safety

The majority of homes in Hancock and Washington counties and across Maine receive their drinking water from private wells that tap into nearby underground water sources, or groundwater. Groundwater in many areas of Maine may contain arsenic, radon, lead, and other contaminants that occur naturally in the surrounding rocks and soil. The Maine CDC recommends testing your well water for these contaminants and others every 3 to 5 years to be sure that your water is safe for you and your family members.
