We had a wonderful Frost Fair: A Winter Wildlife Fun Day event at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge over the weekend (Saturday, February 8). Around 150 people came out to enjoy the beautiful weather and enjoy healthy, family-friendly fun with outdoor winter play and exploration!
Healthy Acadia is so very grateful for our partnership with event co-hosts, Friends of Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge, as well as for the immense support and partnership from staff at the Refuge. We also want to extend a big thank you to the team at Cobscook Shores that provided amazing gear for attendees to borrow - enabling many people of all ages to try out skiing and snowshoeing for the very first time! - Versant for sponsoring the food, Cobscook Bay Cafe for catering delicious chilis and beautiful platters of fruits, veggies, cornbread, etc., the Calais Fire/EMS team, and Steve Dunham from Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and Karin Magera from the St. Croix Island International Historic Site of the National Park Service for great information and engagement in the indoor space.
Gratitude also goes to everyone who attended! We saw so many happy faces of all ages as people participated in the varied event offerings – and our team had a blast as well!
Healthy activities and opportunities to gather together – especially in Maine’s long Winter – are immensely important for community, family, and individual health and wellbeing. We look forward to making Frost Fair an annual event!
