Annual A La Mud Set for May 15
April 1, 2016

The annual 5K A La Mud Obstacle Challenge and 1-Mile Down & Dirty Fun Challenge will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the former Downeast Fairgrounds on U.S. Route 1 in Whitneyville. “A La Mud” is an annual awareness and fundraising event to support Healthy Acadia’s Downeast Teen Leadership Camp.

Healthy Acadia is excited to host the third annual “A La Mud” to raise awareness and generate support for the Downeast Teen Leadership Camp, or DETLC, which focuses on the importance of youth education and peer support in preventing substance and tobacco use among youth. DETLC is a 5-day residential summer camp experience for teens held on the University of Maine at Machias campus. “DELTC challenges and empowers teens by providing them with the skills necessary to positively impact their lives and those in their communities,” said Terri Woodruff, Community Health Program Manager with Healthy Acadia, and Director of the DETLC program. “DETLC creates a safe and fun environment for teens to be themselves while exploring ways they can serve as positive role models for their peers and siblings. Campers will meet new friends and develop leadership skills that will help them to create positive change in their schools and communities.”

Entry fee is $25 for those entering the 5K event and $15 for the 1-mile walk/run. Students under age 18 pay just $10 for either event.
