Indoor Walking Group at Home Depot in Ellsworth
January 4, 2016

Ellsworth’s Home Depot and Healthy Acadia are partnering to offer an indoor walking group at Home Depot beginning January 28th, 2016 at 6:15 AM. The walking group will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 6:15 AM throughout the winter months.

The walking group will be convened by Elizabeth Lyles, Community Health Coordinator at Healthy Acadia. The group will walk for about one hour each day, around the interior perimeter of the Home Depot store. Community members are welcome to join for any or all of the one-hour session. Free pedometers will be available for participants in the walking group, and participants will be eligible for raffle prizes.

“We know that it can be hard to find safe places to walk in the winter and thought that starting a walking group would help to get people motivated,” stated Elizabeth Lyles, Community Health Coordinator with Healthy Acadia. “We are excited to partner with the Ellsworth Home Depot to provide a free, indoor place to walk as a group this winter.”

The walking group is a collaborative effort between the Ellsworth Home Depot and Healthy Acadia. “We are happy to work with Healthy Acadia to open the store for the winter walking group on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Community members are also welcome to come and walk in the store any time during business hours,” commented Josh Kelsey, Store Manager at the Ellsworth Home Depot. The store is open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday to Saturday, and 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Sunday.

The walking group will meet inside the main entrance to Home Depot on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:15am, beginning January 28, and will last for approximately one hour. Signs will be posted directing the walkers around the perimeter, and seven (full) laps around the store are just over one mile.

The Ellsworth Home Depot is located at 56 Myrick Street. For more information or questions regarding the walking group please contact Elizabeth Lyles at 667-7171 or elizabeth@healthyacadia.org.
