“A La Mud” Memory Run Puts Spotlight On Addiction
May 9, 2016

Whitneyville. Healthy Acadia’s annual 5K “A La Mud” Memory Run/Walk and 1-mile “Down & Dirty” Fun Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the former Downeast Fairgrounds on U.S. Route 1 in Whitneyville. This year’s event is dedicated to those affected by addiction and in memory to those who have lost their battle with the disease.

Healthy Acadia's “A La Mud” helps to raise awareness and generate support for the Downeast Teen Leadership Camp, or DETLC, which focuses on the importance of youth education and peer support in preventing substance and tobacco use among youth. DETLC is a 5-day residential summer camp experience for teens held on the University of Maine at Machias campus. DELTC challenges and empowers teens by providing them with the skills necessary to positively impact their lives and those in their communities. Healthy Acadia staff and volunteer mentors, many of whom are DETLC alumni, create a safe and fun environment for teens to be themselves while exploring ways they can serve as positive role models for their peers and siblings.

Entry fee is $25 for the 5K event and $15 for the 1-mile course. Students under age 18 pay just $10 for either event. Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at event check-in.

Participant check-in begins at 12:00 pm the day of the event. The 1-mile run/walk will begin at 1:00 pm; the 5K will begin at 1:30 pm.
