“New Year’s Eve ‘Tacky Sweater’ Fun Run Planned for Machias”
December 14, 2015

Put on your tackiest, wildest, most exciting sweater and join runners and walkers from around Washington County and beyond for Healthy Acadia’s New Year’s Eve, “Tacky Sweater” Fun Run. This non-competitive event is all about having a great time with family and friends, and maybe burning off a few holiday calories.

The approximately 2.3-mile Fun Run will begin at 1pm at the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) Fitness Center. The course will lead participants along the streets of downtown Machias and a short stretch of the Sunrise Trail to the finish line at Station 1989 on Main Street, across from Helen’s Restaurant.

Every participant will receive a cozy knit hat and hot chocolate, and is invited to join Healthy Acadia’s post-event activities, including, of course, a tacky sweater contest. Prizes will be awarded in several categories, including wildest sweater, wildest hairstyle (wigs welcome), wildest facial hair (fake or otherwise), and wildest accessories. Afterwards, catch up with friends and enjoy dinner at one of Machias’ great restaurants before hitting the streets downtown again for the New Year’s Eve, Machias “Lobstah Drop” events. Find “DownEastLobstahDrop” on FaceBook for event schedule.

The “Tacky Sweater” Fun Run is sponsored by Healthy Acadia and the University of Maine at Machias, with support from the Maine Department of Health and Human Services Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services through Healthy Maine Partnerships and Partnerships for Success. Event proceeds will benefit youth in Washington and Hancock counties by providing scholarship funding for Healthy Acadia's Downeast Teen Leadership Camp.

$20 registration fee per participant. To register, visit: https://runsignup.com/ Race/ME/Machias/HATackySweaterFunRun or visit Healthy Acadia’s FaceBook page
