Where: MDI High School
When: 10/20, 10/27, 11/3, and 11/10 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm

MDI Adult Education and Healthy Acadia are excited to offer “Healthy Eating On A Budget,” a free four-class series on Mondays from 6pm to 7:30pm, beginning on October 20 and continuing through November 10. The series will take place at Mount Desert Island High School and will offer participants an opportunity to learn about easy ways to prepare healthy, delicious meals and stretch food dollars.

Classes will be fun and interactive. Healthy Acadia’s Nutrition Education Coordinator, Shoshona Smith, will lead discussions and hands-on food preparation.

“We will also be sampling what we make, which is sure to be a class highlight!” stated Smith. “Class recipes will be made up of low-cost and common kitchen ingredients. This makes it that much easier to go home and incorporate these new and healthy recipes into your every day routine.”

“We try to make adult education readily available by keeping costs down,” said Anne Patterson, Director of MDI Adult Education. “This program is free so it doesn’t get any better! Take one or all four classes.”

To register, call 288-4703.

“Healthy Eating On A Budget” classes will offer easy to follow tips from the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. In order, class topics are 1) Eating Healthy on a Budget, 2) Building a Healthy Meal, 3) Smart Shopping for Fruits and Veggies, and 4) Saving More at the Grocery Store. Sign up for the full series or just one class!

Healthy Acadia’s Nutrition Education Initiative classes are made possible through Maine SNAP-Ed. Maine SNAP-Ed is funded by the USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, which is administered by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and implemented through a contract with the University of New England (UNE).
