RSU 25 Adult Education and Healthy Acadia Offer Free “Cooking Matters” Class Series

What: Six free classes about how to prepare healthy, delicious meals and stretch your food dollars.
Where: Bucksport Middle School (100 Miles Lane, Bucksport)
When: October 8, 15, 22, & 29, and November 5 & 12; from 5:30pm to 7:30pm

RSU25 Adult Education and Healthy Acadia are excited to offer a free six-class Cooking Matters series on Wednesdays beginning in January and continuing into March. The series will offer participants an opportunity to learn about easy ways to prepare healthy, delicious meals and stretch food dollars.

“Cooking Matters teaches healthy eating habits, cooking skills, food shopping, and budgeting through a fun and hands-on learning experience,” stated Shoshona Smith, Healthy Acadia’s Nutrition Education Coordinator. “After offering a successful Cooking Matters course in partnership with RSU25 Adult Education this past fall, Healthy Acadia is excited to continue the collaboration and make the class available again.”

In each class, participants will work together to create a meal and enjoy sampling their completed dishes. Free take-home ingredients will be provided for participants to recreate the meal at home. A recipe book and other helpful kitchen tools are also provided to participants to support cooking at home.

“We are happy to be working with Healthy Acadia to offer this important class series to community members,” stated Leslie Murauckas, Director of RSU 25 Adult and Community Education. “This class will provide very useful skills and resources to participants.”

This Cooking Matters class series is geared to engage community members who are experiencing low income with knowledge and skills to eat healthfully on a limited budget. Participants are requested to commit to all six classes in the series.

The series is coordinated by Healthy Acadia’s Nutrition Education Initiative in partnership with RSU 25 Adult Education.
