Elsie Flemings
Local Legislator Runs for Healthier Communities
September 17, 2012

HANCOCK COUNTY - Two-term legislator, Representative Elspeth (Elsie) Flemings, announced several months ago she will not be running for a third term in the Maine House of Representatives. More recently, Rep. Flemings has decided to run another campaign for a worthy cause that will enrich, protect and support the people of Hancock County.

On October 14th, Elsie will be running in the MDI Marathon, seeking to complete the 26.2 mile run and raise $5,000 for Healthy Acadia, a local charitable organization where she works as the non-profit’s Community Relations & Development Director.

According to Executive Director Doug Michael “Elsie has our entire team cheering her on. She is not only walking the talk, she is running it, going the extra mile to build healthier communities.”

“I began running before my first legislative term to balance the demands of a busy campaign and work schedule. I would have never dreamed of completing a Marathon a year ago, but the thought of reaching beyond my comfort zone and taking on a new challenge was motivating. I thought it would be a great opportunity to benefit our communities while engaging in a fun & healthy activity. I am absolutely passionate about helping people lead healthier lives.” said Flemings.

Healthy Acadia is dedicated to building vibrant communities and making it easier for all people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families. Healthy Acadia improves community health by connecting individuals with health supports, coordinating education and prevention services, and creating healthy policies and environments. Healthy Acadia serves as the Healthy Maine Partnership for Hancock County.
