Healthy Acadia Celebrates 15 Years, Seeks Nominations for Community Health Champions

Healthy Acadia, a community health organization serving Hancock and Washington counties, will celebrate 15 years with community events in Ellsworth and Machias. All are invited and welcome to attend one or both events. In Ellsworth, Healthy Acadia’s 15 Year Anniversary Celebration will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016, at the Moore Community Center in Ellsworth, from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. A similar event will be held at Machias Memorial High School on Friday, September 23, 2016, from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. The celebrations will be festive, family-friendly evenings complete with food, tribute, music, raffle and community awards. RSVPs are requested to best plan for the evening celebrations. As a highlight at each event, Healthy Acadia will honor local “Community Health Champions” - those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in the past five years to shape programs, practices, policies or environments that make it easier for people to lead healthier lives. The organization is seeking nominations from community members for “Community Health Champions” working in areas including, but not limited to:

•Access to Healthy Foods
•Clean Air & Smoke-Free Environments
•Public Policy & Legislative Advocacy
•Chronic Disease Prevention and Support
•Healthy Aging
•Child & Youth Development
•Social Safety Net
•Substance Education, Prevention, and/or Recovery
•Safe Routes To School
•Healthy Schools
•Access To Care
•Environmental Health
•Community Mobilization, Leadership & Leadership Development

In your email message body, please include the full name of the organization, group or individual you are nominating, and briefly describe (150 words or less) why you are nominating the organization/individual for this award, their accomplishment and community impact.

Healthy Acadia engages in a broad range of initiatives that build healthier communities and make it easier for people to lead healthy lives. These initiatives include: creating healthy environments in the workplace, the home, and at school; farm to school programs; promoting active lifestyles; improving food security and nutrition; positive social development; and preventing tobacco use and substance misuse.
