Let’s Go! 5210 believes that all children deserve equal opportunities to lead healthy lives. To put this belief into practice, they have developed the Let’s Go! Toolkit for Children with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). This toolkit contains strategies, tools and resources that address the healthy eating and physical activity needs of children with disabilities. Don’t be put off by the words “Intellectual and Developmental Disability.” The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 1 out of 6 children is born with a developmental delay or disability. Let’s Go! developed its new tools so that they apply to the broadest range of children, including children with milder disabilities such as learning disabilities and ADHD to more significant ones such as autism. Most child care programs serve some children who are extra picky eaters, or lack good coordination, or have trouble making friends. These new tools provide ideas about including children with those types of challenges as well as others.
